    Poem Commentary

After a discussion one night among writer, Jay told me to try and write a rap. So I tried and this is what I wrote for Jay.

    Rapping for Jay

Gonna try this for Jay who likes to rap
Rapping isn't easy for a person like me
I feel like a fish out of water, struggling to breath
A writer with two left feet, trying not to step on another's feet
But I don't want Jay disappointed in me
So I'm writing these words hoping they sound like a rap
Like I told him this isn't an easy task
The poem doesn't create a mood, picture, or feeling
It's just made up of words, clauses and phrases
It's not a poem that tells a story, a legend or a tail
It has no repeating refrain and does not rhyme
Just hoping it resembles the rhythm of speech
I'm not addressing a specific topic
It's not a sad and thoughtful poem
Nor is it short, ironic or a witty
It's not a Haiku with lines of five or seven
I didn't write a limerick vulgar or humorous
It's not a poem that expresses my thoughts or feeling
It's not a rhyming poem full of repetition
It's not words of the same or similar sounds
It does not consist of stanza having seven lines
It has no shape, form or objective
It's not a sonnet, tanka or verse poem I've written
Just me trying to come up with a rap to write
So Jay will no longer be disappointed in me.
