Poem Commentary

A few years ago, on Mother's Day, these words just "came" to me, and I still mean every word.

"Mother"

Mother

The air I breathe, the substance for my survival

a constant well for my thirst.

The pot of gold any rainbow’s end,

shining, like the most perfect jewel,

in all my halls of darkness.

The life force for my ideas, dreams, and desires.

A faithful, devoted influence,

that is never beyond reach.

The voice of an Angle,

 to calm the deepest despair.

A wondrous wit that encourages

me to laugh when I may cry.

A beautiful face,

That ceases my fear of aging.

A loving embrace,

to forever warm my soul.

A true inspiration to go on,

and to conquer.

A friend

in all my times of trouble.

A Mother until the end

of time.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
