    Pretend

    I walked through empty places
    Hidden away and dark spaces
    I cried and lied
    And denied
Things I knew to be true.
I tried time and time again,
    To start over
    But then
    When its over
    I fall again
    Cry again
    Die again
    Only inside
Because the outside has t smile
Has to pretend to stay alive.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
