    Precautionary Measures

    "Wait..,"
    I tell myself,
    "Don't want him too much.
Sit back and be patient. Don't get used to his touch."
    "Hesitate...,
Don't get lost in his gorgeous blue eyes.
Distance yourself, to be on the safe side."
    "Watch Out...
Don't fall victim to his savory kiss.
You know, the one that spell-binds you in bliss."
    "Be Careful...,
Don't forget about his sweet, sexy smile--
the one that he flashes that stops time for a while."
    "Stand-fast...,
Cause' his personality's just too good to be true.
He couldn't possibly be a good match for you."
    "Step Back...,
From his body that causes you to lust,
    Don't let your guard down,
    it's too risky to trust."
    "Hold Steady...,
Don't lead on that he's left an awesome impression,
And never leave a moment to allow your mind to question."
    "Be Cautious...,"
    My friend,
    of the great conversations,
and pretend you've no clue of the thought of relations."
    "Never Relinquish...,
the fact that you think that he's great--
    OK, maybe a little,
    but always hesitate."
    "Momentarily Retract...,
your smile when the telephone rings,
And mask the excitement his sexy voice brings."
    "Tranquilize...,"
    the romantic thoughts,
when he sings in your ear.
    Camouflage your desires,
    cause' surely heartache is near."
    And one day you'll decide,
"I think I'll finally persue it!"
    But too late, sweetheart,
all your precautions just blew it!

    good writing...

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
