Biography

I have 2 sons and 2 wonderful daughters-in-law. One lives in Ukraine as a missionary. Andrew and Katie have 3 children (1 was born this morning, in fact), 2 boys and 1 girl. They are in the states for a few months. I actually went to visit them in Ukraine last Sept. and fell in love with the country and the people. I keep in email contact with one family there. My other son, Tom, just moved to Japan last year to get married to a wonderful young lady, Eiko. He had surgery yesterday for pre-cancer, which was very successful. Eiko always keeps me informed about how they are doing. I am so proud of my 2 sons and the fact that they both have been so brave as to move to another country. They are not afraid to try new things. My hobbies are quilting and gardening and cooking. I enjoy trying recipes from other countries now, too. I have lived several places in the U.S. - N.Y State where I was born, Massachusetts, my favorite place in the world, Texas and Washington, D.C. (when I was 18). I, too, have tried new places, though not abroad like my sons.
I am a Christian and love music and singing. I have lived through a lot of hardships and weathered a lot of dark days in the past, one of which was drugs and alcohol abuse. I have learned to take a day at a time and to look at the bright side of things the best I can. And even the hard times have taught me a lot of important lessons. Though I haven't written poetry lately, it has been a source of introspection and clarifying to me when I have written poetry. I learned a lot about myself through it. I think reading someone's poetry is like listening to the whisper of the person's heart and soul.
