This poem is a tribute to all the wonderful parents out there.....thank you so much......you make us who we are......we owe it all to you.....once again, thanks!

One Thing They Can't Do

Somewhere, up above,

Hidden in the endless skies,

Disguised as a cloak of mystery,

Lost in the jeweled maze of stars,

There's a force, a being,

Who watches us.

They see our petty sins,

They praise our hard work,

They keep our deepest secrets,

In the center of their hearts,

And when all goes wrong,

We turn to help for the one up above.

We make mistakes, as always,

And start to take for granted,

The one up above,

Our clouded vision can't understand,

They fix what we do wrong,

They take the blame for us,

But it's time for us to grow up now.

We'll get older, we'll get a house,

We'll have a family, a life of our own,

But still depend on the one up above,

And even though they will always keep caring,

Even though they will never give up on us,

There is one thing they cannot do.

They can't take us back,

To when we were young,

To when we listened to the wiser,

To when we had an opportunity,

To plan our life, to become what we wanted.

They can't let us go back to our parents,

To realize that they know more,

To understand how much they love us,

To tell them how much we love them.

So if we can't do that later,

Why not now?

Why don't we take our opportunities now,

And not repent later,

Why don't we listen now,

And not beg to hear later.

Because truly, no one is as wise,

As the one up above,

But our parents?

They're coming dangerously close.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
