One Second's Thought
You and I are exactly alike
From the way we smile to the tears in our eyes
Totally of the same skin
We are back together, back to the beginning
Things are different
You look at me with the knowledge
That one day this will have to break
And I look back
To a piece of you I can't see past
With a black-tinted looking glass
I can see nothing
You seem so small
I don't know how to put this any differently
I don't how much farther I can fall
I'm looking inside
These things can take so long
I can only see the blue
In how I feel about you
In what you mean to me
What is the use in going on with this
You asked me to come before, and I was dismissed
Then life turned aside and told me to find
A piece of me I sold
Sold to you
I went back to the shattered earth
And searched around it's broken ground
What once was vibrant makes no sound
And I begin to sift through memories
It was like perfection
I could never let it go
The shine that felt so clean and fresh
That made it feel so natural, and warm
Is gone, left me bereft
And I see only bitter signs of you
I tried to feel and live anew
I failed, and failed in that it's true
That I've only seen shades of blue
Now the beauty is faded
Rusted, love now hated
Hatred
It's not you I fell into
But my own ideas of love and worship
I have no place to keep inside
There's suddenly nothing left to hide
And keeping quiet just isn't right
I need to cry aloud tonight
Those lies that you said, they felt so true
Now there is something left inside
That makes my heart feel so denied
As I walked along my dismal tide and looked down
I see only you
But you changed
Your face doesn't remain the same
Your voice changes with each passing day
Your eyes change color and serenade
And that is what I have today
That is what I give today
I look for you
I look for you
You won't let me in, won't see me
Won't take the time to relieve me
And I see sick thoughts turn to dreaming
With bitter coals cooling, soothing
To see the light that shone so far away
Right behind this coming day
Right behind this coming day
And looking back is, sad to say
A lost dream and a lie to me
Because the words I hear and sights I see
Only bring forth what was bright in me
And the defeat I feel turns to white lace
Something is slowly erased
Inside of me, and the soul I torture
Is delivered to fields of saps and orchards
And then it all feels so, lovely
Lovely?
Lovely
And I feel the light shining above me
Which I deny, but smile softly
And walk forward, slowly inching
Towards the road I've long been chasing
I walk down the road
The warmth has grown in me so bold
No more mighty thoughts of pain
Relieved in bursting sobs of rain
And darkest night falls into day
The pleasure's slow epiphany
Has sprung upon me
I can scream aloud
That, Lord, I have been found
From the way we smile to the tears in our eyes
Totally of the same skin
We are back together, back to the beginning
Things are different
