    Numb

I want to be numb to everything
Never to feel the softness of anything
To be numb to pain and agony
To not ever feel the searing stares on my back
I don't want to feel the warmth nor the cold
I want to be numb to feeling alone
    To all extreme emotions
I want to be a puddle in my hard shell
    To dry up and disappear
To be free of feeling and all the things that follow.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
