    My Love

I sit here looking at you
    from across the room,
    watching you with your daughter.
You look up and see me gazing at you
and smile that shy little smile
    that's just for me.
My heart jumps up into my throat
    and overflows with love.
It amazes me everytime I look at you
and see the love you have for me in
    your eyes.
    Like a reflection of your
    soul shining thru
    to engulf me in a
    light of utter,
    unconditional love.
    Late at night,
when we are lying in bed,
    the entire house is asleep,
    and we talk,
I feel so connected to you,
in a way I've never felt
    connected to anyone before you.
You surround me, everything about you
    takes my breath away,
    from a simple smile to
    a simple touch.
There is nothing about you that
    I don't love.
I can't imagine a world without you in it.
    I don't want to, I couldn't live is such a world.
    Everytime I stand before you,
I have my heart in my hand held out to you,
all my love, all my devotion and loyalty,
    all for you.
    From our first kiss,
    to our last,
    if there ever is one,
I will always love you with
    all that I am.
That is my pledge to you,
    I pledge myself.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
