    My Brother

    FORTUNATELY YOU WERE THERE,
    THE DAY I WAS BORN,
TO KNOW YOUR LITTLE HEAD CARED,
    WHO HAD COME THIS MORN.
    AND YOUR FACE WENT PALE,
    WHEN YOUHEARD YOUR SISTER WAIL.

    TOGETHER WE GREW,
    THOUGH GOOD TIMES AND BAD
U FOUGHT WITH THOSE WHO CURSES AT ME THREW
AND TAUGHT ME TO THANK THEM WHO MADE ME GLAD

    WE HAD OUR QUARELLS
    WE HAD OUR FUN TOO
    U PULLED MY HAIR
    I TURNED AWAY AND CRIED
U CAME AND SAID I CARE
    I TURNED BACK AND SMILED

IN MY LITTLE SHELL WAS I
    WHEN I WAS A BABY
OUT OF IT YOU PULLED ME
AND I GREW BETTER OFF EACH DAY

IN YOU I FOUND WHAT I SOUGHT FOR
A BROTHER EQUALLY CUTE AS ANY OTHER
YOUR TENDER LOVING WAYS EVEN MORE GREAT

I HAVE A ROOM FOR YOU IN MY HEART FOREVER VAST
A SPELL OF LOVE IT HAS CAST
LIKE A LASTING SHIPS MAST THROUGHT A SEA JOURNEY

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
