Looking Glass

I picture two people walking hand in hand,
With love in their eyes and bare feet in the sand.
They are standing together in the pale moonlight,
With the twinkling stars above, he pulls her so tight.
She snuggles in closer her lips brush his cheek,
Embraced in his arms is all that she seeks.
She turns to face him tousled hair in her eyes,
He leans in to whisper but only can sigh.
The magnetism between them is held in a gaze,
Entwined are their hearts to which I give praise.
As I walk by alone I cannot help but leer,
While she whispers his name so tender and sincere.
His fingers gently caress her face,
As he backs away, on the sand one knee is placed.
Tears fill her eyes as he reaches for her hand,
His words ring through the night, as on her finger he places the band.
It is now that I realize this is my life,
And my love is asking for me as his wife.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
