Jimmy and the Sleepy Sun
When Jimmy woke one morningfrom a long and restful night,
he lay abed and realized
that something wasn't right.
No hustle and no bustle
as the earth began its day;
no coffee perking merrily,
no children out at play.
The world was not awakening
it slumbered on so deep
that Jimmy knew what must be true
the sun was still asleep.
He pondered this dilemma
and he saw what must be done;
Jimmy had to find a way
to wake up Mr. Sun.
He ran outside and soon he found
the perfect strategy
to reach the sun, he scrambled up
into the nearest tree.
He shimmied through the branches
to the treetops oh so high,
then used the clouds as stairsteps
as he climbed into the sky.
Soon he passed the silvery moon
who gave a mighty yawn,
"The stars and I are tired,
but we cannot rest til dawn."
Jimmy kept on going
as he climbed and climbed some more;
until at last he reached Sun's house
and pounded on the door.
The startled sun awoke at once
and from his bed he leapt.
"Oh, my goodness gracious me,
I must have overslept."
As he arose majestically,
the sky began to glow
and soon his brilliant rays beamed down
to waken all below.
The sunshine spread throughout the land
the birds commenced to sing.
Moms and Dads went off to work
and kids heard school bells ring.
All was normal once again
as daytime had begun;
the world was finally set to right
when Jimmy woke the sun.
