    I Wish

I wish that I could make yesterday today-

Find the place inside of you

that used to laugh and play.

I wish that I could take you back to where you used to be-

    When you remembered everything

and taught it all to me.

I wish that I could see you smile and know exactly why-

A part of you has left forever

    and you never said goodbye.

I wish that I could bring you back and change what has become-

That you could find yourself again

    before His will is done.

I wish that I could find five minutes of clarity in mind

So we could talk about our love,

    if only one more time.

I wish that I could make you see what used to be in you

And even though you never say,

I know you wish it too.

I wish I didn’t see you struggle to grasp what used to be

Looking for that place in you

that leads you back to me.

I wish that I could find that place inside of you to change

But no matter how many times I wish,

    it always stays the same.

I wish that I could love you enough to bring you home

To give your life a new rebirth,

as if your youth weren’t gone.

I wish that I could write this poem and make it all come true

I just thank God with all my heart

that I’ve known the best of you.

    To My grandmother

    who struggles with dementia

(May she find peace wherever she goes)

You made me cry . Poetry usually does not affect me in a manner that tears are brought forth . This is a poem that I will read again . you are very very gifted

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
