    Gladiator

He stands in the arena, tall and strong
Knowing with full confidence, that nothing will go wrong
Scanning the audience with his fierce and handsome glance
He strides forward, holding his powerful and strident stance

In come the lions, all teeth and claws
    Padding closer on silent paws
With awesome strength, he strikes with his long spear
The noise is deafening as the crowd stands and they begin to cheer

Ripping the air the big cat stands on hind legs spread far apart
The man stands firm, pushing the lance right through the animals feral heart
All the rest fall in the same professional way
Some say that he made history that day

His statue stands today, straight and tall
For everyone knows Rome finally did fall
I am just your friendly mediator
And he was the one true and mighty gladiator

Nice tempo and rhyming style. I really enjoyed this poem.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
