    G.I. Blues

    (For Darlene and Dan)
Oh dearest one, you're far away
The light fades from my eyes
I felt a lump inside my heart
    When we said our good-byes.

I saw my life in colors with you
    Just the other day
But now you're gone and all I see
    Are dimmer shades of gray.

I understand that you must go
    And painfully I wait
And one day soon, when you return
    We'll never separate.

Until that day, I will hold dear
    The times we've spent together
    And patiently await the day
    I'll be with you forever.

Very nicely written. I know this feeling. Many of my friends are in this same situation. 10 from me.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
