A love people say won't last.

Forbidden by life. Together they stand.
Through it all they never give up on eachother.
The love they have outweighs life.

Forbidden by society.
Hands intertwined and locked.
They make their love national.
No worries about those around them.

Forbidden by family.
Never from the same class.
Two different people showing what love is about.
Through thick and thin they stand.
Unified against those who oppose.

Forbidden by friends. Reputations shattered.
Friends lost and gone. Never to be seen again.

Forbidden love.
Forbidden dreams.
Forbidden lives.

Forbidden by the world. Defying all.
They forever remain forbidden.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
