    Flaming Doors

    When I think of you
    When I think of it
It opens a hallway of doors in my soul
    Doors of passion
    Doors of longing
    Doors of imagination
    Doors of adventure
    Doors that kept my dreams
    From benighted youth
Doors that are so filled with desire
    They bring me agony
    Incertitude shut these doors
    Years ago I locked them
    Now with just the thought
They fly open heaving the dust
    Collected along with doubt
    Distress and fear
burst into the hallway like a raging fire
    Where to start
    What flame to extinguish first
    This thought has awoken me
    From a painful slumber
    Devouring me whole
    These flames too strong
The doors will not shut like they once did
    Nothing can be done now
The internal frenzy consumes the hallway
    The doors burn to ashes
    No where to hide

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
