Filling Out This Hole

Somehow this hole feels halved,
But I couldn't have dug half a hole.
I was perfect and content
Until I ran into a wall:
My hole was halved.
I peek my eyes over the rim of my hole.
My toes are barely touching the bottom.
As I scan the surface,
I notice many souls,
All digging holes.
Some souls have partners.
I would bet their holes are whole,
Not halved like mine.
Others,
They just sit on the ground.
They sit on a pile of dirt
Where a hole was filled...
All this time I've been searching for
Someone to complete my hole,
When all I needed was a soul
To fill it...

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
