    Evenstar

    Beyond Gray Havens
    Past the White Towers
I saw your name, and it shined.
Because you are a star who became human.
You are an angel who came here to see,
And I love you for your smile and joy.
    Evenstar you are to me.
Hera and Artemis saw you coming,
In their hearts the flame was lit,
    Jealousy took them over,
And I heard both of them say:
    Evenstar, more fair than me!
    Rosy cheeks, raven hair
    Heart of gold, beauty divine.
    You are an angel,
    Evenstar you are to me.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
