Do You?

Do You?

Do you know me?  Do you really?  Do you know what I’m all about?

When you see me, coming into a room, do you think that I am loud?

When I was younger, or now I’m older, do you ever listen to me?

Now with children and my work, do you ever care for my plea?

I work hard now and I tolerate all I can each and every day

But sometimes, I come home and like a fly you shoot me away

I just want you to say hey I am really proud of you

All of your accomplishments within time will end up coming true

You have come now from where you have been, why don’t you go out?

But no wait you are a dead beat parent you always screwing around

How can you say that?  How can you look me straight into my eyes?

You are a victim like I once was and now you pushing me to the side

I saw you when I was younger the pain the he made you go through

And even now as I sit here writing he just finished pushing you

Not physically because it will come to blows but mentally he stays inside your mind

Walk away please you’re hurting me and now you are starting to unwind.

I can only do for me and the boys and God help us he will guide us through

Because it’s beginning to look like the end how much can he make you do?

Maybe until then you will see me because you don’t know who I am

I can only pray before judgment day that we will get to know each other’s hand

I am your daughter, nice to meet you; it’s been 35 years since we first met

I would like to introduce you to the side of me that so many would have bet

That I would be dead now or in a jail but now I am standing tall.

You might know my kids each with their own personality standing taller than that wall

I am loving and caring and don’t have a selfish bone in my body like you say

I joke around a lot, love attention maybe you should seen me but I was in the way

I am not angry or saddened by the meanest words that you may have said to me

But once in your life, for heaven’s sake introduce me as your daughter not just as a she
