Poem Commentary

Okay honestly as I wrote this I almost started crying.

Destiny/Fate

In light of loves lost,
And in the dark of loves not yet found,
She sits above the world,
Wearing her queenly crown.

She watches as the two kiss,
She prophesies it will be over soon.
She makes sure it won't hurt as much,
As she wraps the young girl in a cocoon.

She leads a boy to that stop sign.
She leads a girl there too.
The package falls from the girls hand,
And there is the boys cue.

The old woman sits and watches,
As her love fades gray,
But at that last moment,
He wipes her tear away.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
