DAD

One day I swear
that you were here;
that you came back
to hush my tears.
You held me near
and dried my eyes
and told me that
I shouldn't cry.
You told me, forever,
you'd be with me.
That I should trust
what my heart can't see.
You kissed my head
and stroked my hair
then smiled at me
and disappeared.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
