    Court Day

    I walk into the courthouse.
    I'm amazed at the size.
Both my parents are already there.
I had spent the night at my grandma's house the night before.
My mom looks like she is about to cry as she comes up to hug me.
My dad just sits there and says "Hi"
I look at both of them hoping they both will be happy with my decision.
We sit for hours waiting for a chance for my sister and I to go into the big courtroom and tell the judge who we want to live with.
    Finally, this chance comes.
    I'm nervous, sweating.
    My sister comes out laughing.
    I remember thinking
    'He's funny! Maybe it's O.K.!'
I walk into see what looks like a very humble but self-centered person.
    I sit and we talk.
    I seem to like him.
Next thing I know I'm walking out of the courthouse with my father.
    Things couln't get any better.
    At the time anyways.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
