city of sin

city of sin

i must flee this city
be set free of this city
leave this city of sin

find the place that i know
the place i call home
back home with all my kin

but the sounds and lights entice
to risk a gamble - my vice
here lies the devil's bargain

allow me tonight for fun
party until i see the sun
and i never will again

feel the rush and lust of night
then remember wrong from right
just give me what i'm askin

just one more night to live
risk all i have to give
then punish me my sins

This a hauntingly perceptive confession. St Augustine once payed, "God grant me chastity and continence (self-control) but not yet." Ecellent write.

We are as much fleeing from the city as we are chasing it! Good way to portray the addictive effects the city can have.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
