Bittersweet

She descends anxiously with love onward to an altar
Only to watch her beloved love thereafter falter

He serves his friends, family, and country overseas amiss
To nervously await the results of his dreaded dialysis

He works day after day, a year upon years
To lose his wife and home, nightly soothing tears

She stumbles upon her knight, protector, romance
Left then with pregnancy, alone with circumstance

Mother of a daughter of which to support
Finds herself in a shelter as her efforts fell short

A young man rears a child so young himself in age
However hard he tried this mother did not engage

A young girl gets past the trauma of her abusers
Only to find herself in the presence of many more users

A middle aged woman takes in a young stranger stray
In the end, death of cancer become the rate of her pay

A young family is born of love and virtue
On the streets they bound as rent was overdue

A lonely child cries in her bed at night
Praying to angels to make her parents not fight

A thriving economy goes on about their life with joy
Now suffering nationwide as no jobs for any to employ

Isn’t life……… Bittersweet?

I like this piece it really brings out the bitter sweet struggle of life, great flow in this piece.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
