AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND
THAT POTLUCK OF GOLD
OF OLD THINGS BEHIND
OF THINGS YOU THOUGHT
WERE FADED AWAY
LIKE AN OLD SENTIMENT
JUST THROWN AWAY
SOME THINGS WILL BRING SORROW
AND OTHERS GREAT JOY
COULD BE SOME OLD CLOTHING
FURNITURE, OR A TOY
COULD BE JUST A PHOTO
OF YOUR MOM AND YOUR DAD
OR OF SOME FAVORITE THING
THAT YOU WISH YOU STILL HAD

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND
THOSE MEMORIES YOU THOUGHT OF
FROM WAY BACK IN TIME
LIKE OLD ROLLER SKATES
AT THE BOTTOM OF A BOX
OR AN OLD KNITTED SWEATER
WITH LITTLE MATCHING SOX
YOUR FIRST  LITTLE HANDPRINT
SOAKED IN SOME PAINT
PLACED ON A PAPER
FOR YOUR MAMA TO FRAME

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
IS WHERE YOU WILL FIND
YOUR FIRST REAL HEARTBREAK
FROM A TEENAGERS TIME
YOUR CAP AND A GOWN
FROM YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DAYS
YOUR FRIENDS IN SOME PHOTOS
AND YOUR OLD TRENDY WAYS
BUT ALL OF THESE MEMORIES
BRING US TO TODAY
FOR WITHOUT ALL THESE MOMENTS
OUR LIFE WOULD NOT GIVE WAY
TO THE WONDERFUL THINGS
THAT AWAIT STRAIGHT AHEAD
AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
THERE IS NOTHING TO DREAD

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
