Asleep

Asleep

Another night of restless hell

This heat has trapped me in its spell

Sweat drips down my heated arm

As I’m waiting for the morning alarm

All that I’ve failed to mention

Is here in this black book of lies

I hear the pain; I hear the cries

Of helpless people in a daze

They can’t get through this mental maze

The reason that I’m here with you

Is something in which I have no clue

I fight to sleep with an iron fist

Blue in the face, taking a risk

This animal inside of me

Grows so strong it cannot be beat

The fire in me fights the beast

The fire wins and gets a feast

I brought upon me selfishly

This fire burning endlessly

It reads my soul; it fuels my mind

No sleep, once again, I will find

Just you and me upon the screen

It helps, I find, to dream of you

Beauty; a simply wondrous view

Rapturous eyes; a graceful soul

To not be in love, I’d be a fool

Such a beauty; so gently cruel

To wake and find myself so fooled

I am the one who couldn’t sleep

Not this night, I intend to fight

Fight until the freedom bell rings

Then I will get this urgent sting

To stop the fight; to stop the fray

And find it in myself to stay

Asleep
