    As I Wait For You

    Standing there,
    I drop to my knees;

    The wind blows,
    only a gentle breeze;

    I sit there,
    as I wait for you;

    I beg you come hither,
    If only you knew;

    waiting for you,
    on the cold ground

    I hope your near,
    I want to be found;

    As I stand,
    I see your face;

    You come toward me,
    as I stand in my place;

    I reach out for you,
    but your no longer seen;

    I should have known it was only a dream!

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
