    “Another End of Year”

Another end of year draws near,
cause for slight fear, of upcoming unclear.
Days go by so quickly, although strictly,
close to history, as the years, pass briskly.
Another end of year draws near,
I wonder with attentive ears, if sounds of cheer,
will cause holy revere, to be clear.
Sitting here, with so much pressure of peer,
    to rejoice with present dears,
    though some, have disappeared.
Another end of year draws near,
so many within this global sphere, some not here,
for they’ve been selected, for heaven’s tier.
I still reminisce, a lovely forehead kiss,
a hug of bliss, a wave of dismiss,
as I walked away, feeling missed.
Another end of year draws near . . .
    Dare I say I do not fear . . . ?
That more losses will occur, without sneer.
That I will accept and remain adept,
    throughout all tears wept,
within so many feelings, quite inept.
Another end of year draws near,
I will keep an open ear,
for those who pain, as in my blear.
    For I cannot always see,
through the tears that defy me,
for they offer memoirs of tragedy.
Another end of year draws near,
though I provide seating, in mental rears,
for these hurtful thoughts, to which I adhere.
Then breathe new beginnings, as in another strife,
for all is good, though cutting like a knife,
when we choose to believe, such is life.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
