Poem Commentary

The haiku is one of my favorite forms of poetry: so much said in a mere 17 syllables. But, with this one, I decided to tell a story with a collection of haikus. I hold this one dear to my heart. The subject matter is the reason why. Thank you for reading.

A FORIEGN SNEEZE

Inspiration found
Inhabitions lingering
Something old comes forth

Her world has gone cold
Ice clings to her memories
Her core is locked tight

He can see a flame
Desperate, he beckons it
He won't let her freeze

Pregnant with questions
Solitude shows no mercy
She must birth alone

Thoughts like fireflies
Now caught in an air-tight jar
Die on the bottom

Seasons keep changing
The flickering can be seen
The lid is removed

Hope sits in her lap
With his face against the glass
He saves his last breath
