    Poem Commentary

Dedicated to my ex-girl friend: C. Chiemela Iheukwumere

    A DATE AT NIGHT

I stand in the way that brings you through
Believing the voice I heard was true
I gaze endlessly at the unending lane
With strength no time could wane

Tick-tock! Shouts the table clock nearby
I only wish, oh! If you could be standby
Long seems the time, I wont let go
For I have waited for a long time ago

Table stacked with pies, cheese and wine
Candles glowed as the pendulum struck nine
The impatient stars calm in wait with me
Anxious to see my joy come to be
They gazed into the dark in search of you
To guide you with sparks as they always do
The night gale blew with might
Sweeping the dark to lead you aright

I join the crickets in their harmonious piece
To receive the one who brings my soul peace
Sit with me great love of my life
As we dine as husband and wife

I loved this poem very much. Thank you for sharing your work.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
