You Have A Friend
You Have A Friend
I knocked on your door to see a smile but that's not what I found
I found my friend in tears and sad; my heart sank to the ground.
Her day started bad and got worse from there and I listened while she spoke.
She received some news about someone she loved and it left her with little to no hope.
As I listen to her, I heard myself, as I felt when I lost someone.
I felt the loss all over again, the pain is never really gone.
I wanted to tell her it will hurt more yet, but it gets better with time,
Especially if you have your friends, to be there by your side
I wanted her to know she's not alone I wasn't much older than she,
When I had lost the ones I love and she could rely on me.
She has many friends but they're too far away to give her that extra hug.
She's going to need a lot of them and her prayers answered from above.
She's going to need an ear late at night, sometimes more often than not.
She's going to need the love of her family a lot more than she thought.
There may be times she feels alone when everybody is there,
But a hug, or kiss, or smile now and then, will remind her that we're here.
We'll need to give her time to cry and time to be alone.
We'll need to remind her of the happy things that make her smile when she's low.
We'll need to be patient and understanding more now than ever.
We'll to reassure her that this pain won't hurt like this forever.
I know that she will turn to God when all else seems to fail.
I know that she'll find comfort there when she is feeling frail.
She'll find her peace of mind and all her questions answered,
God will make sure of this, his followers are never abandoned.
So gather your love and strength my friend you're going to need it all.
And when it seems that you can't find it, you give me a call.
I'll be there to listen, and give you whatever you may need.
A hug, a kiss, a pat on the back, a distraction if that will please.
I know your pain only too well; I know just how you feel.
And if you ever need someone take a look in your heart,
That is where I will be, just a step behind,
You have a friend, it's me.
