    What you leave behind

    sometimes it's not enough
you feel like it's all too tough
    you can't pull through
no one knows what to do

But they're all so ready to judge
like they've been there; like they've been in love
and the moment you reach out
    you're worthless without a doubt

I promise, if you'd seen what I've seen
If you had to hold on to a dream
because it got you thorugh the day
it was the only way to get away

    Then maybe you'd stop
    take a minute, give props
if you felt what i felt
    you'd pray for hell

    Losing control with no reason
    unstable no matter the season
    if everyday was a fight
if you thought about death vs life

    Could you handle the battle
    everyday feeling like chattle
and wait, you're only a child
    mommy's temper gets wild

    More than painful strikes
how about the words that bite
    yea you cry now
but its later that it brings you down

    You never escape the words
they repeat in your head and how they still hurt
    Just like a new cut
they sting like a wound that's never shut

    But thats not the worst
its what you do to yourself when you burst
the way you tear yourself up
the way you feel undeserving of love

    And nobody knows
    because it never shows
    you're an expert at hiding
it all started with silent crying

you had to learn how to hold in emotions
learned how to not make big motions
but feelings don't like to be held in
to be buried and now you begin to wear thin

    So every release is intensified
    the perpetrator is petrified
but against the anger you're powerless
the sorrow you can no longer oppress

    scared to lose control
coz you don't know what's capable
and your soul is so tired
a lifetime of rest is desired

so you take the gun in your hands
    with no further plans
    you cry and shake
and your own life you take

    It's over and done
but for them its just begun
because its not what you take or what they find
it's all the things you've left behind

a fine poem my dear, but in its lines I have found the pain and depression that I'm sure still calls your name. I hope that things are getting better in your life! Doug

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
