Welcoming The Rain

Poem Commentary

I love the rain.  A soft drizzle or a fierce downpour, doesn't matter.  I like to walk in, watch it, smell it, taste it and appreciate it.

Welcoming The Rain

Welcoming The Rain
(Deborah Taylor)

Gray clouds loom overhead
and threaten rain
not a soft drizzle
 a downpour...
The kind that cleanses
the ground
and the soul
I tilt my head upwards
tongue outstretched
eyes closed
thirsty
the twilight cast dancing shadows
 over the lake
drought leaves turn
their faces to the sky
in anticipation
thunder rolls
promising the onslaught
lightening pierces the sky...
and the quiet
my life has been too still
I feel the first droplets
bouncing off my eyelids...
sprinkling my lashes
dampening my hair
I stretch to reach
the liquid sunshine
not wanting to wait...
until it finds me
the skies open up
the deluge begins
pure cloud juice bathing me
I dance beneath the flow
spinning in a slow circle
feet splashing in the
sudden puddles
drenched beneath Heaven's waters...
I am baptized again
and I welcome the rain

is this the very feeling of a person who experiences bliss in nature's rampage...love it..reading this makes me love to go outside and wet my self in the rain...it's so ecstatic

Thanks for the comment, stellar. Remarkably, here in Alabama we have had rain non-stop for almost two weeks so most are ready for some sun. We had a sneak peak of normal weather the other day and my hubby and I decided to take a walk on a nature path close by. It began to pour while we were too far into our walk to turn back and no place to duck in for cover so we did indeed enjoy a deluge from nature. Glad you liked the poem.

This was a beautifully written poem. I could picture the rain drenching everything in sight. I could see you dancing happily through the puddles. Loved it, TS

Thank you again. My husband thought I was crazy when we first married two years when I asked him to play in the rain with me but now he enjoys it as much as I. Well, at least he enjoys sitting and watching me get drenched.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
