Visiting Day
Cleaned,showered,and dressed in my blues
I waited for this day,I even got new shoes
Finally it comes, the time of the call
So nervous and weak,I hope I don't fall
I make my way to the house on the hill
So filled with expectation, down my spine ran a chill
Then to a room to be stripped and searched
Then around the corner to see my mom perched
My heart fluttered and my stomach got tight
Because around my mom there was nothing but light
I turned,I saw,and flew from my chair
I embraced my mom without despair
Then rambled and talked all about my year
As I reached up to my face to wipe a tear
Always positive,I tried to be
Hiding my pain from her to see
The guard yelled out"Get back to your house"
Our eyes met in silence as quiet as a mouse
Then mom said" You'll be fine and so will I"
Now I better go before I cry.
