Unfinished Business

Poem Commentary

My dad is sick and in the hospital, very sick. He cheated on my mom when I was young and when my mom told him to leave he left he came back turned out he wanted his cake and eat to. I don't think he ever wanted to have kids, really didn't want me. I was daddy's little girl and I loved him dear when he left home, it was never the same anymore. He married the woman he cheated on my mom with and now at age 24 I'm still mad inside because my dad knows nothing about me he just sees that I'm like my mother.

Unfinished Business

Him and I have unfinished business

Will the end come sooner than tomorrow

He was only breathing 20% on his own

Now he has pneumonia

Will I be able to make a change if he comes home to stay

Will I pick up the phone or talk to him face to face, without him being so fake

I just wanted that time alone that time I deserved with my father, no half-sister

No lady he married that know I will never call her step-mom

I have unfinished business that may just be business that’s already finished

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
