Poem Commentary

I was inspired by someone I love who is obviously not in a good place right now but has learned from mistakes and faith in God is keeping love, peace and mental well-being where they need be.

Unconditional

The red brick wall between you and me

Not for always; just for now it must be

Off to the showers, hope I get one today

Out to the yard; then to work for low pay

No coffee today; gotta save some cents

Until there’s enough for that tv set.

Learned to sacrifice and do without

The way of the Lord; the path to His House

Oh my loving God, is this what you meant

When you said I must serve you and repent?

I accept all I’m given and am grateful

To still be alive,  healthy and not hateful

It’s hard in here but you keep me safe

I needed this time to clear my plate

For now I’m learning most of all

What love is  - when it is - unconditional

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
