'Twas After Our Wedding
'Twas after our wedding I was left on my own
To care for my children and build them a home,
But who could I turn to? Who my children would mind?
I had to find a neighbour both charitable and kind.
I was at my wit's 'end with no where to go.
Where could I leave them? Just where - I don't know!
I wandered near and far to find a place of the best.
Somewhere my young ones would find love, care and rest.
And then, there I saw! The end of all my woe!
I'd leave my first born there and then on I would go.
I'd leave each offspring in a different type of home.
They'd be well looked after and not on their own.
You may think I've no heart to do the awful thing I do,
But each Spring you will listen to hear our cry - Cuckoo! Cuckoo!
Cuckoo!
