    Trapped

    I feel beaten, trapped
I feel as if I am stuck in time
    I cannot move forward
    I ache with this pain
    I tremble with this fear
I do not own my own soul...or my heart
    My body, has betrayed me
    My eyes fill with tears,
    With every shakey breath...
    My lungs gasp for air...
    Edging slowly toward certain death
It is so hard to breathe
When you are in this much pain...
My dreams have all become nightmares
    My hopes have all died...disappeared.
    The footprints in the sand
    Are going the wrong direction
My heart is cold and dark,
    And I shiver with it
    Beating frantically inside me...
    I am beaten...trapped.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
