    To the People of 9/11

Dear Uncles, sisters, brothers, good friend; I didn’t learn the names of whom so much depend
So brave the souls and what respite, I know you did put up a fight.
The universe alone will tell the tales, but oh, how soon they filled the graves, where souls of dignitaries and ordinary people lay; a microscope could not tell the tales.
You know, I didn’t celebrate my day that came before this great despair,
My postponement was all in vain, but how could I celebrate a birthday when no one came.
The terror strikes, the fire ignites this time there was no order to read the names. So many perish, so much pain, oh brother let the enemy be disdained.
I try to feel you, to listen and tell but who knows the reason why you are dead.
My prayer for you is that some day the reasons will be your ultimate pay.
The pay you expected when you leave, so many behind who are still in need.
I close with my love my hope and despair and again I ask why, why that is all I can say.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.
