    Poem Commentary

Written during a dark and difficult time in my life...

    Today I Understand

                                    Today I Understand

Today I understand why individuals end there lives.  Today I feel I can give answers to those who don’t see why.  Today I understand…

Today I understand that as an individual a person can only handle so much.

Today I understand how one can become tired of being frustrated all the time.

Today I understand how one can become sick of being aggravated day in and day out.

Today I understand how one can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel, how you become tired of searching for the light because you only continue to find darkness in your path.

Today I understand how searching for peace physically or mentally can lead one to end that what others call life.

Today I understand that there is no one that can help when all has no meaning, not loved ones, not environment, nothing.

Today I understand, that when all hope for relief is gone, laughter and the ability to love goes along with it.

Today I understand that the human soul can only take so much pain, before collapsing.

Today I understand how the strong get weak, for having to pretend composure all the time can be a burden to the body and soul.

Today I understand how the meaning of ones life can come to an end without warning.

    Today I understand…

Very affecting! Understanding is made a precarious state of affairs, here. My philosophy (for want of a better word) is "love conquers all", and when you truly love yourself, you are invincible against all comers.

Thank you very much for your sweet words!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
