To My Dog--

You and I have weathered the years together
A boy and his faithful dog
And for that I wish to thank you.
For being you

Feeling your fur brush by my leg
The hot breath of loving friendship
The look on your face every time I enter the room
And the sound of your welcoming bark
These are all things which I wish to enjoy
For as long as possible

I don't want to think of a day without your spirit to guide me onward
As long as you are my dog
You and I are connected through eternity

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
