Poem Commentary

This poem is for all people to recognize daily the gift of time.

Time

Time counted in moments between life and death, From our first gasp of new air to our final last breath. A touching moment, a long held embrace, These are the moments that time will erase. When time is watched closely the moments they linger, Like sweet drops of water through a thirsty mans fingers. Moments gone by can’t be relived, Granting both pain and pleasure which only time gives. To the youth time is wasted, to an old man so precious, Often forgetting each moment’s blessing. Time goes so fast like long distance running, Passing so fast we just feel life’s numbing. The minutes keep passing as time forward climbs, All of us wishing for just a little more time. The baby grows big and the parents grow old, They wish for those moments just once more to behold. Time plays a tune like a slow dance, Played for a couple who wished one more chance. Taps played for a soldier who gave his all, Like leaves fade in autumn on the cool ground they fall. Minutes to hours, days into months, Years all together forever crunch, The moments of life often spent foolish, Wished to be done over, but time overrules us. What will you do with the moments your given, Are they special and precious the life that you’re living? Do the moments tick by without much thought given, Marching onward for your own pleasure driven? The mind begins ageing, memories and thoughts slipping, Like a smooth flat stone thrown over a silent lake skipping. One lifetime is given, no more and no less, What will you do with the moments still left? Do you spend them as gold, or waste them like pennies, Forgetting that you’re granted only so many. So as you watch time ticking away, Don’t forget to thank God for this special day, Soon just a memory to also fade away. Ken April 09

From birth to death. Time. We have to be thankful for whatever time we have been given, good...bad...otherwise. And this poem says all of that and more. Nice work, K.

When time is watched closely the moments they linger, Like sweet drops of water through a thirsty mans fingers. That line is my favorite, it's quite beautiful. Time can make us cringe but at the end of it all it's all we crave

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
