This Life I Live....

Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem my senior year of high school. It was a time of deep conflict for me. I was in a very tumultuous relationship with a boy & my relationship with my parents was strained. It was a time of deep conflict for me. I had my boyfriend pulling me in one direction & my parents pulling me in another. I felt like I had no voice & no choice.

This Life I Live....

Sometimes I wonder...
Why do I exist?
But this life I live...
I can not resist.

At times...
I am content.
But this life I live...
I resent.

At times...
I get mad.
But this life I live...
I must have.

At times...
I am depressed.
But this life I live...
I will repress.

At times...
I feel hate.
But this life I live...
I am made to take.

At times...
I am lonely.
But this life I live...
Is my only.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
