This Is Our Country (Soldier Blue)

open your eyes
a bounty of beauty
diversity from sea to sea
giving strength to all
empowering us
this is our country
we are not perfect
atrocity has been committed in our name
there is no paragon among humans
find consensus
work together to amend disputes
frame your mind
dwell on the positive
see the mountains
the valleys
the plains
the exquisiteness we have in reach
see the bloom in her medley
fear not the differences
embrace multiformity
surround yourself by the lush dissimilarity
take to heart the positive virtues
humanity toward all people
tolerance of all ways of worship
sing in unison for the vision
the vision of a united people
work toward peace, freedom and equality for all
is there any other way to truly love her?

Based on the Buffy Sainte Marie song Soldier Blue.

Bravo, well written. More people should feel this way. I enjoyed reading this. Keep up the good work.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
