Their legacy Our destiny

I am the daughter of a pharaoh, sister to a queen, cousin to a warrior,
Niece of a priestess, and friend of a ruler
Hatsheput, Nefertiti, Queen Tiye, Makeeda Queen of Sheba ,
Yennenga, Ann Zinga, Mothers of Africa
I am molded in your strength
Baked in your knowledge
Glazed in your beauty
Covered by your legacy
I am the daughter of a slave, sister to a house slave, cousin of a
Medicine woman, niece of a runaway slave,
And friend of a abolitionist
Anastacia, Nanny, Ellen Craftsman, Sojourner Truth, Mary Prince,
Harriet Tubman, Mary Seacole, Mothers of slavery
My lungs inhale your courage
Exhale your strategy
Blood flows from your perseverance
My heart beats because of your legacy
I am the daughter of a banker, sister to an entrepreneur, cousin of a teacher,
Niece, of an activist, and friend of a principal
Ida B Wells-Barnett, Maggie Lena Walker ,Madame C.J.Walker,Anna Julia Hayward-Cooper, Bessie Coleman, Mary Church Terrell ,Mary Jane McLeod Bethune
Mothers of Jim Crow
I drink your ambition
Taste your passion
Savor your creativity
My thirst is quenched by your legacy
I am the daughter of a songstress, sister to a poet, cousin of a doctor,
Niece of a senator, and friend of a presidential candidate
Coretta Scott King, Marian Anderson, Dorothy Celeste Boulding Ferebee,
Angela Davis, Shirley Chisholm, Maya Angelo, Barbara Jordan,
Dorothy Height, Beah Richards,
Mothers of civil rights
I walk with your endurance
Jog with your dedication
Run with your motivation
My pace is guided by your legacy
My sisters we stand upon a road paved in royal garments, shackles, blood, sweat,
And tears,
Steam rolled in accomplishment
A road that has evolved into a highway of opportunity
Their legacy will lead you to your destiny
Sisterhood, friendship, and family is the energy thrusting you forward
To achieve your goals
We are centuries away from royal titles and the birth of civilization
 Standing miles from slavery,
Yards from civil rights, and one step inside Freedoms door
Where the echo of struggle bounces of walls once concealed
Yet time is merciful Change inevitable
It is a new day and we enter the next phase
Their legacy your destiny
Royal eyes, shackled ankles, strong thighs, fist held high, and bruised knuckles
We are grateful for your determination
Preparing the pathway for the next generation
Honor your fore sisters by diligently trying to attain your dreams
Rise confident, tackle your trials, ignore malicious statements,
Step over ignorance, accept guidance, embrace constructive criticism,
Assume responsibility, and mentor another sister
Take your inheritance and expand the wealth
Leave a legacy for the next generation¢s destiny

                                               Do you hear me?

i like how you seem to understand how we are all interconnected. and the flows of the words show the relationships we all have to each other. bravo.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
