The Red Box

Brothers response to Mothers Love:

And so my sister
you could not allow
my forgetfulness of
words not remembered

Of something you
reminded me years ago
I still ask why
words not remembered

A red box arrives
holding the mothers song
" I love you a bushel and a peck
and a hug around the neck"

Your gray haired brother
weeps at the memory lost
words remembered in
the Spirits moving

And so, its a beginning
I, at one time had
a reference point and
I shall be returned

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
