    The Last Time

Christmas time comes once a year
    And so do Christmas rhymes,
So here is mine to you my dear
And it is called ‘The Last Time’.

This year was The Last Time you had to feed them or kick them out of bed.
Our children have all grown up, got married and flown the nest.

This Christmas is The Last Time that we will just be 6
Next Christmas we’ll have a new arrival, can I play stickle bricks?

This Christmas is The Last Time we won’t be Grandma and Grandad eh!
A life changing time for us, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

My, how time flies when you look back across the years
I’m sure it won’t be The Last Time that we share our hopes and tears.

Enjoy your Christmas time this year, with your family all around you
Remember sweetie, for The Last Time, don’t call me Victor Meldrew

We have a so much life to live, and so much left to do
It won’t be The Last Time my darling, I tell you that ‘I Love You’

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
