    THE DEMON

Where were you when I was so in love with you
You were running after your obsession
and I kept believing it was a phase

Where were you when I needed you
You were running after your obsession
    and I carried the load

Where were you when I was lonely
You were running after your obsession
and I sat alone and cried

Your obsession was like a demon...
    it called, it demanded.

demanded that you ignore feelings as you watched me go
demanded that you forget about love and goodness.
demanded the ultimate price - Your life.

I could not fight with the demon.
and when I thing of you, I know
he can make no more demands on you
and you are finally at peace.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
