    The Body

My veins are those snaking rivers
that connect the four hearts of earth
those carriers of life and spirit
that show us life’s true worth

My flesh is that fertile soil
    where earth’s lambent tapestries grow
the fields of Carthage before the salt
the land tilled by Ceres hoe.

My pulse is that skewed horizon
where sky and earth dance, entwined
where the palette of reds becomes one emphatic orange
when the patch worked skyline reveal the grand design.

My breath is that gentle, calming breeze
when the auburn leaves embody Terpsichore
that gentle whisper in your ear
that recount the tales of yore.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
